Find out how Gas to Liquids (GTL) fuel can increase efficiency and reduce emissions.
Engine Compatibility
Unlike some other alternative fuels, GTL Fuel is compatible with most modern diesel engines and is therefore one of the most cost-effective ways of helping to reduce transport emissions.
Increased Efficiency
GTL Fuel has a higher cetane rating than regular diesel. Cetane is the diesel equivalent of octane in petrol. The higher rating makes combustion in the cylinder far more efficient.
Supplying Demand
One world-scale GTL plant could supply enough GTL Fuel to power the equivalent of all the buses and taxis in up to 10 mega-cities. Shell plans to open the world’s first world-scale GTL plant in Qatar.
Reducing Emissions
Shell’s groundbreaking development of GTL Fuel has the potential to contribute significantly to reducing urban air pollution. Tests around the world have repeatedly proved that GTL Fuel produces less nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and particulate matter than regular diesel.
Minimising Noise
GTL engines run far quieter than traditional diesel engines, reducing noise as well as air pollution - another great advantage in our overcrowded cities.
